Basic Needs & Support

  • Homeless Case Management – Intake and assessment; referrals to LGBT-safe emergency shelter; transitional living programs; free medical clinics; mental health counseling; chemical dependency treatment; GED programs, etc.

  • Dinner with Divas – Dinner with LGBTQ-youth led discussions Monday through Friday 

  • Fuel First Meals Program on Outdoor Ed/Recreation/Camping/Snow Sports Trips – Breakfast, lunch, and dinner for homeless or low-income youth on longer trips; Snacks and water for shorter trips

  • Clothing Bank – A well-organized resource with thousands of items for unhoused, gender-variant, and other youth.  Includes binders, interview clothes, gender-appropriate clothes, winter clothes

  • Personal Hygiene Items – A well-stocked resource for maxi-pads, shampoo, tooth brushes, etc.

  • Paid Job Skills Internships (see below) 

  • College Admission Counseling – Formal college advising by appointment, especially for youth with limited college advising available in high school and at home.

  • Career Counseling – Available daily from volunteers with diverse professional backgrounds in law, medicine, aeronautical engineering, software development, and many other fields

  • Computer Lab – Up-to-date hardware, software, and internet; Wi-fi in all rooms


Identity Affirmation & Support

  • Making Friends / Socialization / Community – The Number 1 goal stated by 92% of youth who access Lambert House each year is to make friends. They do that through: Our Safe Chaperoned Social Space; Board and Table Games; Group Art Projects; Playing or singing music together on piano or guitar; a Reading Space; Video Gaming together, LARPing, COSPLAY, and other youth-led social activities. 

  • Mentoring – Nine to 14 diverse, trained adults are available each day for guidance or discussion about any youth concern or interest (123 adults comprise the mentor pool)

  • LGBTQ+ Library – A professionally curated lending library with over 2,500 LGBTQ+ titles. Thirty labeled, alphabetized sections, are catalogued and have QR codes to make finding books of interest easy.  Large LGBTQ+ young adult section. This collection is unique in the Northwest.

  • Literature Table – Information on chemical dependency prevention, voter registration, STD prevention, depression, suicide prevention, smoking cessation, homeless resources, etc.

  • Bulletin Boards – Four designated boards: 1) Jobs, scholarships, and research studies; 2) Featured youth art and writing; 3) Community organizations and events; 4) Youth messaging


Social Support Groups

Most groups meet weekly in-person, a few meet online, and some are hybrid. Our online groups have served youth living in 10 countries, 28 US states, and in rural communities in Washington state.

  • 10-14 Year Old Group - Affinity group for LGBTQ+ youth ages 10-14; meets in 10-week cohorts. Cohort & Registration Information.

  • Transgender Youth Group – Affinity group explores gender identity

  • Art Group – Group employs many media to create LGBTQ+ youth art.  Occasional public exhibits and displays

  • Ultra Violet – Affinity group explores female identity

  • Boys Who Like Boys Group – Affinity group explores male identity

  • Saturday Night Live Group - Monthly adult-facilitated online social support group for LGBTQ+ youth ages 11-22 with games, cosplay nights, movie nights, discussions, self-care and mental health workshops, and more.


More Ways to Connect at Lambert House

  • Dungeons & Dragons – Monthly game nights facilitated by Wizards of the Coast game developers trained and certified as Lambert House volunteers

  • Book Club - LGBTQ+ youth pick a theme and a book to read and share as part of a discussion. Meets online, in partnership with the King County Library System.


Outdoor Recreation, Sports, & Culture

  • Queer Rec Outings – 200+ Monthly activities have included 90+ Cascade and Olympic Mountain hikes, canoeing, climbing walls, Duwamish Kayak Cleanup (with Puget Soundkeeper Alliance), Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, The Underground Tour, Museum of Flight, Skateboarding, Snow Tubing, Caving, Tidepooling, Cross-country skiing, Snowshoeing, Bowling, and Roller Skating.

  • LGBTQ+ Culture Series – 100+ Group outings to Seattle Storm WNBA Games; Rat City Roller Girls; Pride Night at the Mariners, Seahawks, Kraken, and Reign; Seattle Women’s Chorus, Seattle Men’s Chorus; LGBTQ+ theatre; AIDS in ART; Lambert House Youth Art Show Opening at Antioch University; and other LGBTQ-themed cultural and sporting events.

  • Film Series – 47 weekly LGBTQ+ film nights curated with youth input

  • Camping Trip – Five days of outdoor activities such as Rafting the Skagit or Wenatchee Rivers, Kayaking in the San Juan Islands, Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in the North Cascades, Horseback Riding, Exploring the Ape (Lava) Caves, Tidepooling at 2nd Beach, Swimming, Dark-Sky Stargazing, etc.

  • Winter Sports Program – Skiing and snowboarding at Crystal Mountain; 4 Sundays in a cohort of 28 youth. Fee or scholarship includes lift ticket, equipment rental, lesson, lunch, and transportation. Provided in partnership with the Share Winter Foundation and Crystal Mountain Resort.


Leadership, Job Skills, Positive Youth Development, & Internships

All Lambert House programs are youth-driven, requested by youth; some are youth-led. Lambert House has had a robust youth leadership development program since 1996.

  • Internships / Practica (hands-on, supervised fieldwork) – 28 to 40 internships annually range from eight weeks to a full year. 

    • Post-doctoral licensure supervised hours; 

    • Doctoral or Masters graduate/professional school internships and practica; 

    • College academic credit internships; 

    • High school community-service internships; 

  • City of Seattle-funded Youth Job Skills, Leadership Development & Event Planning Internships – Committees made up of paid and volunteer interns plan, produce, and execute youth events such as Pink Prom, Pride, and Halloween. Paid interns are provided a $220 stipend.

  • King County Youth Group Internships – Youth from Lambert House’s King County Satellite Groups meet with adult volunteers to plan monthly groups & activities for youth in their communities. Interns are provided a $220 stipend.

  • Youth Public Speaking – Youth receive training from staff on how to speak individually or on panels. They train adult volunteers; staff outreach tables; speak at fundraisers; testify in government hearings, present in schools, etc.

  • Community Service  – Youth fulfill high school community service requirements, or simply their desire to create community. Staff collaborate with youth to create individualized volunteer experiences at youths’ request.

The Lambert House King County Network

Since 2019, Lambert House has established a network of 11 geographically dispersed LGBTQ+ Youth Social Support Groups. In partnership with the King County Library System – lamberthouse.org/kc-groups, groups are co-led monthly by Lambert-House’s trained, paid youth interns, our skilled volunteers, and professional librarians in:

  • Kenmore

  • North Bend

  • Renton

  • Sammamish

  • White Center

  • Woodinville


Health

  • HIV and STI-Prevention Education / Sex Talk Seminars – Sexual health and safety seminars customized for LGBTQ+ youth; confidential one-on-one guidance for youth, available year-round

  • Educational Workshops – First Aid; Self-defense; Youth Suicide Prevention; Supporting a Friend in Crisis; etc. Community-based workshop locations have included Angle Lake, Bothell, Seattle’s Central District, Des Moines, Kent, North Bend, SeaTac, Mt. Rainier, Darrington, Hoodsport, etc.

  • Condom Corner – Printed Safer Sex Information, condoms, dental dams, lube


Other Services & Programs

  • Parent Consultation – Lambert House staff confer by phone or in-person with parents/ guardians on a range of Healthy Youth Development topics related to LGBTQ+ youth

  • Technical Advising/Training – Lambert House staff train several hundred professionals and community members at conferences, in professional development workshops, and one-on-one each year. Numerous professional associations and governmental agencies request our expertise.
