In addition to support at local schools, there
are a bunch of programs around the city aimed at queer folk in general and
queer youth in particular. Here's a rundown of some of them:
Queercore
is a group affiliated with Gay City.
Queercore is aimed at gay and bi guys in their late teens and early 20s. They
do all kinds of neat things that are all about preventing HIV through building
community. Call 206-860-6969 for more info, or check out their website.
Ingersoll Gender Center is
Seattle's transfolk home. They've got support groups, they've got resources,
they've got referrals; if you have a question about anything transgendered,
Ingersoll is the place to get an answer. Their phone number is 206-860-6064.
The Gay Youth Info Line -- 547-7900. Run by AFSC (American Friends Service
Committee), this has information on coming out, social events, and support
resources for queer youth.
PFLAG Seattle PFLAG (Parents,
Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is a support group and activist
organization for the families and friends of queerfolk. They do a lot of good
stuff and have chapters all over the state. The phone number for the Seattle
chapter is 325-7724.
The Safe Schools Coalition.
This is the group to call if you're getting harassed at school or if you have
any questions about being safe at school. Their hotline number is

Seattle's Commission for Sexual
Minorities. They advise the city council on queer-friendly policies and
work on projects for the queer community.
COLAGE Seattle: Children Of Lesbians And Gays Everywhere. This group is for
kids of queer parents. Call Mike Beebe at 325-4449 for meeting information.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence -- Abbey
of St. Joan are a group of nuns dedicated to bringing joy to the world.
They work to raise money for AIDS organizations, fight for queer rights,
educate the public about safer sex, and have a fabulous time doing it.
YouthCare is an organization that
provides support and services for at-risk youth in the Puget Sound area. They
do many many good things for homeless and street youth. Call them at
206-694-4500.
Long Yang Club of Seattle.
The LYC is "an international, non-profit social and educational group
established for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people who share an
interest in Asian culture." They have a mailing list, and a list of upcoming
events in Seattle.
Seattle Politics and
Activism is a page that isn't queer-specific, but they have a rad list of
links- that includes us!- about everything from local pirate radio stations to
Food Not Bombs, Q-Patrol to the Raging Grannies, BlackStockings to Left Bank
Books, Amnesty International to the ACLU. . . you get the idea.
